Tonight

Tonight I am in an interesting situation. It is 10:00 and I have nothing to do.

Tonight is one of those cherished few moments when I’ve finished all I have to do for the day and I’m not quite ready for bed yet; so instead, I blog.

The Spaniard and the Irishman

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

When you set your alarm so you can get up and watch Golf… you might have a problem.

If that’s the case, then it’s the best problem I’ve ever had. I just finished watching two full mornings of the British Open and my mind is spent. People say watching golf on TV is boring. Those people didn’t watch the British Open.

For those of you who didn’t watch, Sergio Garcia, “El Niño” led the entire tournament until Sunday afternoon with 4 holes to go. He ceded power to a feisty Argentinian who promptly hit his drive into a Gorse Bush to double bogey. Padraig Harrington steadily moved up the field and in dramatic fashion, hit his drive on the 18th tee into the water, followed by his second shot… into the water. He ended up tied with Garcia who could have won the tournament, but missed his putt by a millimeter. One quick jump to the right and the tournament was his. After that, it was all over.

A forced playoff was pretty well settled as the two walked off the 1st hole +1, -1 advantage Ireland.

I guess I’m blogging about this because of that millimeter. That shot was important and it’s the reason he didn’t win right then and there, but there were a series of ups and downs the whole day that put him in the place he with 4 feet to go on the 18th green.

It’s the same way in all our lives. You may not realize it, but your yes and no decisions you have made your entire life have put you exactly where you are today. Even the little ones.

Had my Dad not let me ride in the cart with him , I wouldn’t love golf. If I hadn’t gone to my first Nascar race, I might just think those guys are going in circles. If had had never gone to my first youth group hayride, I might not realize the gift I was given when Jesus died for me.

Your choices matter. They matter to you and they matter to the people around you.

You can love those around you or you can blow them off.

If you’ll excuse me, I’ve gotta go practice my putting.

It’s been a while
