What seeing your girlfriend after 5 months apart feels like
Quite honestly… it feels like 5 months could have just been 5 minutes.
Last month, I flew into Miami about 20 minutes before my girlfriend Erica flew in from Honduras, where she’s been since August. She is serving with the Missioners of Christ, a Catholic
non-profit organization that serves the poor of Comayagua, Honduras. Yeah, I know. She’s pretty boss.
Anywho, we flew into Miami the night before we left for The Rockboat. More on that later.
I was a little nervous at first. How would it be to see each other? We only had been able to talk once a week for about 30 minutes a week. We both lead very busy lives and that’s about the most we could make work. I came around the corner at the International Arrival’s terminal and waited. I waited for a good 15 minutes before I felt my phone vibrate.
Erica: Where are you?
Me: I’m at International arrivals.
Erica: I don’t see you.
Then I looked and saw a beautiful blonde with her back to me about 50 feet away.
Me: Well I see you. I’m on your 6.
Erica: What?
Me: That means turn all the way around.
Then she turned around, eyes met, fireworks, a symphony, the whole kit-n-caboodle. Five minutes later we were in a cab on our way to South Beach and it felt like no time had passed. lt was amazing to me how she could be gone for so long and not a thing had changed.

About The Rockboat next time.
