if you’re chilly, here take my sweater

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

hello friends.

Here I sit in Tallahassee Florida and it’s a little chilly! Of course, it’s 45 and not 4 or 5 like it is in St. Paul… but what can I say, my blood thins fast.

It’s been a pretty good week home. Not too much to report. I’ve gotten the chance to catch up with some friends, hang out with the family quite a bit and enjoy a very very long Christmas.

Phoenix Rising or: How a short cowboy spent Cinco De Mayo

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Greetings world. This blog is nearly a month old and should have been posted sooner and for that I apologize. Onwards we go.

On Friday May 4th, I pointed to the West and flew the friendly skies to Phoenix… a town that is not spelled phonetically… ironic since they both start with “pho” but I digress.

Pre-Order for Sister Hazel!

My Debut is coming soon…

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

This is the first line on Jon McLaughlin’s new album “Indiana” which came out today.

I’ve just finished the last track and I’m blown away. He’s basically a musical genius. I saw Jon open for Sister Hazel about a year ago and I’ve been waiting for this album since then. He’s a fantastic piano player, a great songwriter, and more importantly a faithful husband and, from what I can tell, a great man of God.

If you haven’t heard him, check him out and if you haven’t gotten the album yet, DO IT!

Are You Who You Want To Be

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

You ever have one of those mornings where you look back on everything you once were and realize it’s nothing you are now? Welcome to my Saturday Morning.

I went to Adoration this morning and just felt Him stronger than I have in a while. After spending sometime in silence just looking at Him and listening, I felt like I was supposed to listen to some music. I put on a Reflection Playlist I have on my iPod and a couple of songs came on that really took me to some key moments in my conversion.

The first was King of Glory by Third Day . This is a song that really meant a lot to me in College. It was the first time I heard a song that made me truly think about His glory and His majesty as a King; My King. We used it as the Entrance song for a retreat I did with the youth group I helped with in Tallahassee. I still remember how that song really made me start to comprehend the incomprehensible.

Next was a Switchfoot double-play. Dare You To Move and This Is Your Life. These two songs brought me to a darkened Highway 80 on my way to Clewiston, FL. I was driving for a meeting with the City Council the next morning and was having some good alone time. Those two songs came on like a 1-2 punch to the face. That’s one of the first times I really gave into God calling. I knew there was something else I was supposed to be doing that that who I was was not who I wanted to be.

Welcome to my conversion snapshot. Of course my conversion is much deeper and detailed but sometimes it’s the guideposts that really give us an idea of where we are and where we’ve been.

When you’re head down fighting through all the muck, we don’t have time to necessarily see the big picture. When we have a moment to stop, take a breath and look back at where we’ve been, you can see the bigger moments that God has put in our lives to help us guide through.

Are you head down? or are you at a point God is ready for you to breathe and look back on where you’ve come from?

Think about it. As for me, I’m gonna turn my face back toward the Son and see what might be next.
