The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Well my friends, I have several blogs I need to write;

A recap a recent trip to Cedar Point in Ohio… but I’m waiting on video to upload to make it more effective

A recap of my recent visit back to Florida. I’ll have this one up shortly.

Today’s blog actually is part of my visit home. It goes a little something like this.

While I was home I decided I should probably have a physical, since the last one was 2 years, 20 lbs , steak everynight and a beer gut ago. We have some family history of heart disease and with my dad recently going in for some treatment I decided I should keep an eye on things early.

Long and short of it, I’m in perfect health, just waiting back to hear on my Cholesterol blood test. Seeing as how I’ve improved my health so much, I haven’t been too worried.

Apparently there is Good Cholesterol and Bad Cholesterol involved. If they find they Ugly Cholesterol I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a gunfight.

So the nurse finally calls and apparently my Cholesterol is higher than they’d like it to be. Their suggestion is to eat less fat and exercise a couple times a week.

After informing the nurse that I exercise about 3 times a week and I’ve cut my fat intake to 50 grams a day, there was a slight silence on the phone, followed by what I can only define as a concerned “OH. Well we’ll check your blood again in October.”

Great. So now I feel like I need to make sure I’m actually eating well and getting my exercise. So last night I had a salad. For Dinner. That’s all.

I had Oatmeal for Breakfast and a Turkey Sandwhich for Lunch.

I’m starting to think early “retirement” might not be too bad. It certainly couldn’t be worse than eating a salad for dinner.

I KNOW where your coming from Mike. I have to have my blood
checked every 3 months due to diabetes and heart disease. I had a
stent put in a cardiac artery in June ‘05.
Heart disease runs in my family also and alot of families.
Your smart by going for physical. Most people wait too long.
My cholesterol is 150 which is good. But it can go up if we’re not careful. Keep tabs on your tryglycerides also.
You sound like you eat smart ….so keep that up.
Eat lots of fish (salmon) w/ omega 3
oil…..fruits and veggies….steak now and then.
Louis Rich 97% Fat Free pre sliced turkey is awesome by itself
or on wheat bread. Try skim milk too!
Common sense and moderation are the key.
Thank the Lord for getting you in for check up.
Our Moms were right (they always are)…eat your veggies.
Good luck. See ya at Dr. Welbys in October.
